Greenstar North America recently hosted the Esplanade Beautification project at Wiess Park as a part of the Great American Cleanup campaign. Greenstar provided their educational trailer to help volunteers, including the local Girl Scout troops from Whidby Elementary, above, learn more about recycling.

The Houston Black Firefighter's Association held their 18th annual toy and holiday basket drive this week. For more than a decade the Houston Black Firefighter's Association has been helping families in need during the Winter Holidays. This year, 200 families will receive toys and holiday baskets from the Association.

For the 28th year, the Houston Hispanic Fire Fighters Local 341, will be putting together special food holiday baskets for seniors in need during this season. The baskets are paid by funds raised during fundraiser's held through out the year by the HHFF.

Tejano Center for Community Concerns launched its Winter Warm-Up clothing drive on Dec. 7. The drive runs through Thursday, Dec. 31. The community is asked to donate new or gently used jackets, coats and sweaters that will go to students and families served by TCCC.

ARAMARK employees spent the Thursday before Thanksgiving getting into the holiday spirit and helping families that are still grappling with the devastation that Hurricane Ike caused a year ago. Above, Margarita Perez lends a helping hand.

The John C. Freeman Weather Museum is offering free admission to anyone who brings a food donation. The offer will run from Nov. 21-30. All donated food will be distributed by The Blessed Basket of Galveston County in San Leon, Texas.
