Greenstar North America recently hosted the Esplanade Beautification project at Wiess Park as a part of the Great American Cleanup campaign. Greenstar provided their educational trailer to help volunteers, including the local Girl Scout troops from Whidby Elementary, above, learn more about recycling.

The Yates High School debaters were honored as “Squad of the Year” during this past weekend’s Andrews Kurth City Championship of the Houston Urban Debate League Tournament. And one of the teams is heading to state.

Yates fell behind early, went ahead right before halftime and poured it on late, beating Huntsville 103-74 to move onto the regional championship, March 6 at 7 p.m. against La Marque.

With four area teams in action in the boys basketball playoffs, there were plenty of postseason dreams alive. At the end of the night, only Yates remains alive.

Throughout this season, the Madison Marlins have been an afterthought to outsiders, thanks to the departure of former guard Tommy Mason-Griffin. Madison is proving their doubters wrong, beating Seven Lakes Thursday night to make it to the third round of playoffs.
