The Yates High School debaters were honored as “Squad of the Year” during this past weekend’s Andrews Kurth City Championship of the Houston Urban Debate League Tournament. And one of the teams is heading to state.

A person was stabbed to death early this morning at an apartment complex in southeast Houston. The stabbing happened at the Indigo Falls apartments in the 10900 block of the Gulf Freeway about 3 a.m.

Yates fell behind early, went ahead right before halftime and poured it on late, beating Huntsville 103-74 to move onto the regional championship, March 6 at 7 p.m. against La Marque.

Two more men have been arrested in a double slaying at a convenience store in the East End last year. Xavier Alexander Austin, 23, and Herbert Foster Nash, 27, are charged with capital murder.
