The University of Houston moved Wednesday to raise its admission standards, one day after voters approved a measure to boost the stature of the university and several other Texas schools.
Higher standards will attract better students, increase graduation rates and improve the university's reputation, Provost John Antel said.
“This is a first step,” he told regents, saying standards will continue to rise over the next few years. “We have to become more selective.”
